The deceased M Babu of JJ Nagar in Singaperumal Koil was a history-sheeter, said the police adding Babu has many cases pending against him and had got out on bail a few months ago. He was working as a tea master in a hotel on Singaperumal Koil railway station road since then. On Tuesday night, Babu was returning to his house when a few persons who came in a car intercepted and attacked him using sickles and machetes. Babu tried to flee but the group chased him to death.
Maraimalainagar police visited the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to the Chengalpattu government hospital.
During the inquiry, police found Babu had some property dispute with Bharani of the same locality. On the day of Deepavali, both of them quarrelled and attacked each other. Police said Bharani had then challenged that he would kill Babu within a few days. Bharani is also a history-sheeter and got released from the prison in end-July. The police have registered a case and search is on to nab Bharani and his gang.
