DVAC raids Tasmac Elite shop in city, seizes Rs 69,000 unaccounted cash

The surprise check was carried out at the Elite shop 10 pm onwards and continued till 5.30 am Sunday morning. According to DVAC officials, a sum of Rs 69,180 collected from customers, as excess amount apart from the MRP, was seized after verifying the stock and sales details. Incriminating documents, including credit/debit card transactions confirming the collection of excess amount were also seized.

On Thursday, vigilance sleuths had raided two Tasmac shops in Cuddalore, and recovered over Rs 47000 unaccounted cash from the employees. “These raids have proved that the staff at Tasmac have been selling Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor to the public without bills for years now and have also been extorting excess amount from customers for every bottle they sell,” an official said.

Earlier this week, sleuths from the DVAC continued with their surprise checks which resulted in seizure of unaccounted cash of over Rs12 lakh from searches conducted in 12 premises across the State. Meanwhile, a surprise check at the office of executive engineer of TWAD board in Tiruvarur on Saturday resulted in the seizure of Rs 2.48 lakh cash while in another raid at the Hosur sub-registrar office in Krishnagiri district on Friday night ended with seizure of unaccounted money of Rs 3.86 lakh.

In other seizures, the DVAC team recovered Rs 44,500 from a district social welfare officer who allegedly collected bribe from 11 people for approving marriage assistance.
