The accused was identified as R Saran (23) of Vyasarpadi, from whom the officials seized four cars and a two-wheeler. According to the police, Saran took a Maruti Ertiga vehicle from one Paranthaman, claiming that he would use the car as call taxi in return for a handsome sum every month. Believing him, Paranthaman gave his car, but did not receive any money from Saran. As he was not even able to spot the car with Saran, Paranthaman grew suspicious. A case was registered and Saran was picked up from his in-law’s house in Thirumalaivasan Nagar. During interrogation, Saran admitted that he pledged the car and spent the money. He also admitted he has cheated several persons in the similar manner, including at least seven persons in Tirumullaivoyal alone.
