The first-year admissions were completed recently. A team comprising faculty members from different branches will visit the colleges and ascertain whether the amenities like classrooms, labs and playgrounds were as per the norms.

At present, there are more than 450 colleges in the State affiliated to Anna University. A senior faculty member of Anna University told DT Next that the first criteria of a college to get affiliation is the faculty requirement. This part, the college should library, lab facilities and proper classrooms. “In addition, the colleges should have sent out a minimum of six consecutive batches in academic courses concerned,” he said.

The institution should have made admissions (including lateral) which should add up to 50 per cent of the total intake capacity of the programme concerned from 2018 to 2020. He said the sanctioned intake of the courses should not have been reduced by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as a form of penalty from 2017 to 2020.

“For PG programmes, permanent affiliation would be granted only when the relevant UG programmes qualify for the same,” he said The permanent affiliation fee for each of the academic programme up to the sanctioned strength of 60 students would be Rs 5 lakh and an additional affiliation would cost Rs 2.5 lakh.

“Anna University reserves the right to review the affiliation at any point of time and withdraw the status if the facilities are found wanting,” he said.

The university will also conduct surprise and periodic inspection to verify if the colleges adhere to the norms set.
