DMK MLA alleges scam in free food distribution

Alleging that the Rs 316 crore plan executed by the civic body in the city was engulfed in irregularities, Subramanian said the ruling party members were committing irregularities without involving civic officials in distributing three meals per day to 26 lakh flood affected people in the city for eight days at an expense of Rs 150 per person.

Citing the social media posts of AIADMK functionaries, including a few MLAs in the State capital, claiming to have distributed meals to a thousand people with 10 kg rice, the Saidapet MLA said that though Corporation Commissioner promised to initiate action after he lodged a complaint with the official over phone, food distribution through AIADMK men continued in many places even last night and Thursday morning. His complaint has proven futile, said Subramanian, who released photographs of alleged AIADMK men distributing food on behalf of the City Corporation. The Opposition MLA said Rs 316 crore belonging to GCC was being siphoned off by the ruling party members in this manner.

DMK to protest seeking removal of toll gates in GCC limit

Subramanian also announced that he would mobilise nearly 50,000 members to protest at Akkarai toll gate on Friday to protest the collection of toll within the city Corporation limit. Pointing out the reply from Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to DMK MP Thamizhachi Thangapandi, advising her to approach the Chief Minister as the toll gates were within city limits, Subramanian said the DMK has decided to mobilise people to stage the protest as the government had failed to act in the last 10 months since the party lodged the complaint.
