At present, the traffic signals are set manually. Under ITS, cameras would be placed along the major roads and data would be sent to the specially developed software, which would operate the signals, a Corporation official said. Of the 491 traffic junctions in the city, the civic body has identified 165 junctions, all in the core city areas. “The idea is to increase the flow of traffic and reduce accidents and delays,” he said. Cameras will also be installed at traffic junctions to capture violation of traffic rules. Also, cameras would be placed at accident prone locations. The civic body will also redesign traffic junctions to reduce accidents. Also, passengers waiting at bus stops would get updates on the arrival of MTC buses.
