According to a Chennai Corporation senior official, the work order was issued a few days ago to Ramky Enviro Engineers after several rounds of talks. “Ramky Enviro Engineers will carry out the conservancy works in Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram and Ambattur zones. Already, Urbaser Sumeet has started operations in five zones,” the official said.
Explaining the reason for the two-month delay in starting the operations, the official said the Ramky Enviro Engineers has been given two months to procure required vehicles and equipment. Ramky Enviro Engineers was doing the conservancy works in Kodambakkam, Teynampet and Adyar zones for over eight years.
It may be noted that the civic body had issued work order to Urbaser Sumeet to take over the conservancy works in Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Adyar, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur in December 2019 but the commencement of the operation was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Urbaser Sumeet commenced their operations in September.
Of the 15 zones, the civic body will continue to do the conservancy works in only zones such as Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Anna Nagar.
“Urbaser Sumeet has started operations in Kodambakkam, Teynampet, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganallur zones. They will start their work in Perungudi and Valasaravakkam zones in a few weeks. From March, all the 11 zones will have private conservancy,” the official said.
