Government sources said that Kamaraj had recently attended an event to distribute Pongal gift hampers in Thiruvarur and doctors suspect that he have contacted the virus from there. After confirming positive, officials in Tiruvarur were directed to test all those who were in close proximity to Minister during the function.

Sources also said that a detailed medical bulletin will be released by the hospital in the evening.

Kamaraj, however, is the not the first Minister to test positive for COVID-19 as Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, Labour Minister Nilofer Kafil and former Agri Minister R Duraikannu had already contracted the pandemic but except for Duraikannu, other Ministers had successfully recovered.

Sources added that Kamaraj is doing fine in the hospital and is out of danger.
