Even though the incident happened on December 30, the shopkeeper realised that the jewels were missing only two days later. He alerted the police and a case has been registered. The police collected CCTV footage of the women stealing the jewels and released it to identify them. In the video, one of the two women can be seen hiding a pair of earrings.

In another case, unidentified persons escaped with 30 sovereigns from a house in Paruthipattu. The victim Devaraj, a real estate broker and resident of Bishop Line, had gone to Hosur on December 18 with his family.

Devaraj’s kin, who lives in the neighbourhood, found the house’s door broken open on Wednesday and alerted the police control room. A team from the Avadi police station rushed to the spot and conducted inquiries. Devaraj, too, has returned to Chennai and lodged a complaint that 30 sovereigns and other valuables are missing. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
