Metro Water field officer held for graft

A field officer from the Office of Assistant Engineer, CWWSSB (Metro Water) was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 for processing an application for water and sewage connection from a person who preferred a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Monday.

The complainant approached the DVAC after field officer Hari Rao, Depot 39, Area 4, New Washermenpet demanded Rs 15,000 for processing the application for water connection to his father-in-law’s house. As he was not ready to pay the bribe he approached the Vigilance team, who set a trap on Monday and caught Rao red-handed. In another case, an assistant director of the Agriculture department in Chengalpattu was arrested when he accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 on Monday. The complainant had approached the Chengalpattu Agriculture department Assistant Director Office and requested for a NOC to change the land into real estate property. Though the complainant had requested to reduce it, Sivakumar insisted on full ‘bribe’.
