The Slum Clearance Board is constructing around 2,000 dwelling units in Keerapakkam near Guduvanchery. More than 100 construction workers from northern states are staying and working at the site. A few workers suffered from cold and fever for the past few days after which health workers from Guduvanchery primary health centre collected samples from them and confirmed that 33 of them were infected by the virus. When the officials reached the spot to take them to the hospital, they managed to find only 25 workers.

Sources said all of them were from West Bengal and escaped from the construction site after noticing the health officials.
