The Chengalpattu police on Wednesday arrested a 52-year-old staff of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) station for allegedly murdering his 21-year old son-in-law in Thirukazhukundram.
The arrested was identified as S Rajendran, a foreman in IGCAR who allegedly killed his son-in-law Maqbool. The accused was unhappy with certain activities of Maqbool as it brought a bad name to his family.
The deceased hailed from Karnataka. Police said Maqbool met Rajendran's daughter Nishanthini (20) of Kalpakkam through social media and the couple fell in love. A few months ago, Nishanthini went to Karnataka and there they got married in a temple and stayed together in a rented house.
Three months ago Nishanthini contacted her father Rajendran and apologised and the latter invited the couple to Kalpakkam to stay with him. Following that three months ago the couple reached Chennai and were staying in a house in Thirukalukundram. Rajendran also arranged a job for Muqbool in a private firm.
Two days ago, Nishanthini's mother became ill and she was admitted to Kalpakkam Hospital and Nishanthini was taking care of the mother. On Tuesday morning since Mukbul did not come to work and as he did not attend the phone calls his friends on suspicion visited the house and found him lying dead with cut and burn injuries. On information, the Thirukalukundram police who visited the spot retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem to the Chengalpattu GH.
Police said Rajendran was not happy with certain activities of his son-in-law in Kalpakkam and he decided to eliminate him. Rajendran gave food laced with poison and then hacked him to death before burning his body after dousing it with petrol, police said after recording Rajendran’s confession.
