Bike rider, vegetable vendor killed in different accidents in Chennai

CHENNAI: The deceased identified as Jagadeesh of Ayapakkam near Tiruverkadu was a load man, while the pillion rider, Perarasan hailing from the same locality, is Jagadeesh's co-worker, said police.

The incident happened when the duo was returning from Elliot's Beach and the CCTV footage of the accident went viral. The video clip shows that an MTC bus (5E plying between Vadapalani and Besant Nagar) takes a right turn to enter the depot when a speeding bike rams the bus near the rear wheels of the bus.

Both the rider and pillion rider were thrown away and fall between the front and rear wheels.

While Jagadeesh who was stuck under the bike was run over by the bus, while Perarasan managed to escape in narrowly from the wheels.

Passersby alerted the 108 ambulance and rushed Jagadeesh to the hospital, but he was declared brought dead.

Police said that the deceased misjudged the bus' movement and the CCTV footage shows the turn indicator of the bus was not on.

In another accident, a 45-year-old man died and three others injured after a TNSTC bus rammed a car they were travelling in Injambakkam on ECR on Wednesday morning.

The deceased T Murugesan of Injambakkm was a vegetable vendor and the accident happened when he was returning after buying vegetables from Koyambedu along with three others Thamarai Kannan (42), Kumar (43) and

Ramesh (52). Kumar who drove the car tried to take a U-turn in front for a theme park on ECR at Injambakkam, when a TNSTC bus bound for Cuddalore rammed into the car.

While the car turned turtle in the collision, all four in the vehicle was rushed to the nearby emergency care centre. But Murugesan was brought dead, and three others were sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital.

Adyar Traffic investigation police have registered separate cases about both the accidents.
