CHENNAI: A few weeks after the government issued approval to construct flyovers in three places in city, the Greater Chennai Corporation has floated bids inviting eligible contractors to carry out the multi crore project.

According to the civic body document, bids have been floated for flyover along South Usman Road-CIT Nagar 1st Main Road. Another flyover will be constructed over an existing subway at Ganesapuram in Vyasarpadi. The flyovers will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 98 crore and Rs. 81 crore respectively.

In December, the civic body passed a resolution approving designs of the flyovers and sent it to the State government for administrative sanction. The sanction was issued as a government order in January.

The Ganesapuram flyover will be constructed for 680 meters with four lanes. At Otteri junction, a two-lane bidirectional flyover connecting Konnur High Road and Strahans Road will be constructed. Despite the fact that there is a flyover on South Usman Road, the civic body designed the new flyover to link the ramp portion of the existing flyover on South Usman Road and proceed above the CIT Nagar 1st and 4th Main Road junctions.

Apart from the flyovers in T Nagar and Vyasarpadi, the government sanctioned permission for another flyover at Konnur High Road and Strahan’s Road junction.

Meanwhile, the state government has announced flyovers on Anna Salai in the State assembly.
