Man arrested for hurling Petrol bomb at Chennai lodge

While no persons were injured in the attack, glass panes and furniture in the reception area of the lodge, MRM residency were damaged, police said.

CHENNAI: Virugambakkam police on Monday arrested a 37-year-old man for hurling a petrol bomb (molotov cocktail) at the reception of a lodge on Arcot Road in Vadapalani on August 26.

While no persons were injured in the attack, glass panes and furniture in the reception area of the lodge, MRM residency were damaged, police said.

The incident happened around 9 pm, police said. On information, police personnel from Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue services reached the scene. The fire was put out, before it could cause more damage.

Based on a complaint by the lodge owner, Thameem Ansari of Vadapalani, police registered a case. Preliminary investigations revealed that miscreants had come on a two-wheeler and hurled petrol bombs before fleeing.

Based on CCTV footage in the area, police zeroed in on the suspects. On Monday, police arrested M Vinoth Kumar (37) of Maduravoyal in connection with the attack. Police said that Vinoth Kumar and his friend, Kalaichelvan indulged in the act to take revenge on the lodge owner allegedly over a sour financial transaction.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Police said that he is a history sheeter with two pending murder cases against him.
