Iyyapanthangal residents are in agony as meat waste raises stink

Due to the uncontrolled dumping of garbage and meat waste like chicken and mutton, pigs forage the waste which is another concern of the residents.

CHENNAI: Residents of Iyyapanthangal are facing health threat as the meat waste and sewage are being dumped illegally on a vacant land that turned out to be home for stray pigs.

P Senthil Kumar, a social activist in the locality, said that the vacant plot is located on Mettu Salai close of SRMC Police Station. "Unknown persons dump meat waste on the plot. No one can cross the spot without covering the nose, as stench emanating from the waste is unbearable. Pedestrian are most affected. Meat waste are thrown at the spot every day, " he added.

Due to the uncontrolled dumping of garbage and meat waste like chicken and mutton, pigs forage the waste which is another concern of the residents.

Senthil Kumar also raised a complaint with the local body officials to identify the persons received unknown persons and take permanent measure to prevent further dumping.

The upset resident Senthil also said school students also suffer from illegal dumping as there is a school on close proximity to the spot. Moreover the locality is a residential area.

Meanwhile, a health inspector attached to the Iyyapanthangal village panchayat assured an inspection at the spot on Thursday. He added that measures will be taken to remove the waste from the spot.
