CHENNAI: A police team on night patrol bumped into a burglary attempt in a TASMAC outlet near Gummidipoondi, where two men had drilled a hole into the wall to gain entry, during the early hours of Sunday.

When policemen looked through the hole, the two men were found drinking and they were made to come out through the hole they drilled.

Police said that they caught the duo before they could steal cash and booze from the Tasmac outlet, which was allegedly their plan. The arrested persons were identified as Sathish (32) from Pallikaranai and Muniyan (30) of Villupuram district.

They were staying near Gummidipoondi and were working as casual labourers. After work on Saturday, Satish and Muniyan had booze at the Tasmac store. After the Tasmac staff shut shop, the two of them came back again around midnight and drilled a hole in the wall using a hammer and chisel.

Around 2 am, a patrol team of Kavarapet police who were on night rounds in the neighbourhood became suspicious on hearing noises from the closed Tasmac shop and went around to find the hole in the wall.

A police team rushed to the scene on information and the two men were made to come out of the hole they drilled. Police seized Rs 14,000 cash and few bottles of liquor from them.
