TIRUVALLUR: In tune with the state government’s direction to aim for a gutkha and tobacco free society, the Tiruvallur police officials have kick started district-wise anti-tobacco campaign targeting school children and school zones.

As part of the programme on Monday, Mapedu police conducted an awareness event at the Government Boys High School in Perambakkam. Speaking at the interaction, Mapedu police officials emphasised on prevention of drugs and creating a drug free society. Mapedu sub-inspector Ilango said that the Chief Minister MK Stalin has been implementing various measures on a war-footing to prevent youth, school and college students from drug addiction. “Apart from this, special teams that conduct raids and confiscate gutkha products have been appointed by the Tamil Nadu government and strict action is being taken against those involved.”

He emphasized on the need to focus on education and requested the students to take a pledge that they would not indulge in drugs.

“If any of the students come to know that gutkha products are being sold near their homes and surrounding areas, they should immediately inform the nearest police station and ensure a drug-free Tiruvallur district,” he added. More than 200 students participated.
