CHENNAI: City police said that they’ve formed 3 special teams to re-investigate and arrest suspects in at least 8 unsolved murder cases. The oldest unsolved case dates back to 2006. Victims in seven of the eight unsolved murder cases are women.
The youngest victim among them, S Aruna (22), was murdered by her boyfriend at his apartment on Baraca Road, Kellys, in March 2015. The suspect, K Dinesh, who was working in a BPO, has managed to evade police arrest till date.
The two were alone at home and Dinesh was suspected to have attacked Aruna with a flower vase which resulted in her death. He then wrapped the body with old clothes and dragged her down from his second-floor apartment to the ground floor. He abandoned her in his car and fled the scene.
There are 2 murders for gain that remained unsolved. Parimalam, wife of a central government officer, was murdered inside her flat in KK Nagar in 2006. A couple was murdered in their house at Velachery in November 2007.
Other murders of women, Parameshwari (65) and Ranjitham (38), happened in 2011. K Sumathi (51) of Perambur was killed in 2013.
Two cases of senior citizen murders – Saradha (72) was killed in Egmore (March 2016) and Seethalakshmi (75) was murdered in MGR Nagar (October 2021).
