Techie held as live-in partner attempts suicide

CHENNAI: Police have arrested a 33-year-old software engineer for allegedly cheating his live-in partner on promise of marriage and forcing her to attempt to take her own life.
The arrested person, Sampath of Nolambur, was living with a 30-year-old woman at an apartment complex in Iyappanthangal near Porur for the past one year, police said.
Last week, the woman attempted suicide by allegedly consuming pills and sanitizer at her residence in T Nagar after which her family members rescued her and admitted her to a hospital.
Police, who learnt of the woman’s suicide attempt, conducted investigations and learnt that the man had got engaged to another woman while being in a live-in relationship with the woman, which forced her to attempt suicide.
After learning of his engagement, the woman picked up an argument with the man and moved out of the apartment and lived with her parents. Based on a complaint, Porur police registered a case and arrested the software engineer.
