4 booked under Pocso for forcing girl to attempt suicide

CHENNAI: Thiruvallur Police on Thursday arrested four persons for taking video of a minor girl with her boyfriend and then used the video to threaten her.

The girl, a Class 12 student attempted to end her life depressed over their harassment, after which the incident came to light.

Police sources said that the girl went to a secluded area and met her boyfriend there. Both of them are from the same village in Tiruvallur district, police said.

Four men, who found the couple together, recorded a video and threatened that they would show the video to the villagers. Later, they intercepted the girl when she was alone and threatened her again after which she attempted suicide.

On Monday night, she set herself on fire after which she was rushed to a government hospital nearby. Police said the girl suffered about 40 percent injuries. She told the medical personnel at the hospital about the sequence of events which forced her to attempt suicide. Police were informed and sased on the statement, a case was registered against- Ajith Kumar (25), Gnanamoorthy (20), Rasakannu (23), and Ajithraj (26). They were booked under Pocso Act and remanded in judicial custody.
