Collector distributes health insurance cards

CHENGALPATTU: The district collector distributed insurance identity cards worth Rs 5 lakh to beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Chengalpattu (CMCHIS) on Saturday.

In a programme organised by the Chengalpattu health and family welfare department on the fourth anniversary of CMCHIS and PM’s Arogya Yojana, district collector Rahul Nath distributed identity cards for insurance holders and gave away fruit bags for those who underwent surgery under the scheme.

He also honoured hospitals and health workers with medals and awards for exemplary performance. Over 9 government hospitals and 37 private hospitals come under the comprehensive scheme in which 1,450 medical and surgical procedures, 38 diagnostic tests and 154 associated follow-up treatments are included.

“Those with a BPL income, senior citizens, widows and Lankan refugees can benefit from this scheme,” said collector Rahul Nath, while speaking at the programme. “Over 4.6 lakh families have taken medical treatment under the scheme so far in the district.”
