Hunger strike demanding teaching jobs in Valluvar Kottam

CHENNAI: More than 200 teachers, who have passed the Tamilnadu Teachers Eligibility Test (TNTET), are on a hunger strike in Valluvar Kottam, Chennai demanding teaching positions. Protests are being held demanding speedy issuance of appointment orders to those who have passed teacher qualification test and removal of the rule of re-appointment competitive examination.

The protesting teachers' union who passed the TNTET test stated: "Inadequate teachers in schools will ruin the future of students. The government should immediately hold talks with our protest group, otherwise it will turn into a continuous struggle. Without filling the teaching vacancies, the quality of education has decreased. How can students do well in schools if there aren't enough teachers."

The BJP has extended its support to the protest of those who passed the teacher's qualification test. After MNM party, administrators and BJP State vice president Karu Nagarajan backed the protest.
