CHENNAI: More than 200 teachers, who have passed the Tamilnadu Teachers Eligibility Test (TNTET), are on a hunger strike in Valluvar Kottam, Chennai demanding teaching positions. Protests are being held demanding speedy issuance of appointment orders to those who have passed teacher qualification test and removal of the rule of re-appointment competitive examination.

The government should immediately hold talks with our protest group, otherwise it will turn into a continuous struggle. Without filling the teaching vacancies, the quality of education has decreased.
