CHENGALPATTU: Officials during the second zonal office meeting of the Tambaram Corporation discussed the northeast monsoon preparedness and precautionary measures in Chengalpattu on Thursday. Collector Rahul Nath who led the review meeting said that several precautionary efforts are being taken where areas in which rainwater stagnates have been identified and special monitoring teams have been appointed to inspect them before the monsoon begins. “These teams will ensure that all the necessary measures are being taken so that rainwater does not stagnate,” he said. Due to heavy rains, people staying in low-lying areas and dilapidated buildings have been identified and advised to make arrangements to stay in the nearest relief centers. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure that essential commodities are available to the public during monsoons and basic facilities such as drinking water, electricity, toilets are kept clean and ready. He also noted that medical authorities have been instructed to check the stability of the relief centers selected for public to stay during emergencies and make sure they are prepared by spraying disinfectants ensuring a hygienic environment.
