CHENNAI: Theobroma, a pastry store having a range of cakes, bread, dry cakes, biscuits and cookies among others, launched its first branch in Chennai, Anna Nagar on Friday. The pastries and food at Theobroma are affordable, have great finesse in texturising their cakes and also for their presentation, and are available in egg and eggless options.
Some of their best-sellers are opium cake, Dutch truffle, chocolate and hazelnut cupcake and vanilla cupcake, banoffee high, fresh cream pineapple pastry, choco chip brownie, pure butter palmiers, and walnut brownie.
We started off with their fresh cream pineapple pastry. This pineapple pastry is layered with real-cut pineapple and cream and topped with pineapple pulp. The cream was very fresh and the consistency was perfect. The cream lived up to the name of the dessert and did a tremendous job of lifting the dessert single-handedly. The soft sponge of the cake was insatiable.
Their choco chip brownies served hot, have melted choco chips on the inside. This gooey, chocolatey brownie has the perfect texture not making it too fudgy or too clammy. The slight crunch every now and then in the brownie added an extra boost of chocolatey flavour to it. Pro-tip, try out the choco chip brownies with their cappuccino. They complement each other really well and will also help you wash down if you feel you have had too much chocolate.
Their walnut brownies are also irresistible and are a must-try.
The bread ranging from sourdoughs to baguettes is economical and very fresh. Especially the sourdoughs. Their dry cakes variety, pound cakes, banana cakes, mava cakes, and dense loaf cake are also pocket-friendly and has value for money.
If you fear that one day you might not find Little Hearts in stores, don’t worry, there’s a replacement for that. Their pure butter palmiers which are big heart-shaped, sugared puffs taste similar to the famous snack. However, an entire puff cannot be had in one go as it might become too sweet for the palate.
Their best-selling almond biscotti are soft textured almond biscuits which are perfect for your masala tea or coffee.
On the whole, the pastries, brownies and biscuits do not disappoint at all. In fact, they exceed all expectations and justify the hype that comes with the name ‘Theobroma’. The dishes are affordable and come in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options; in terms of cake, egg and eggless. The eatery has tied up with food delivery partners and is available on food delivery apps. Go have a taste of the food of gods in the city.
