CHENNAI: With cryptocurrency trade gaining acceptance among public and the consequent rise in frauds, police officers in the rank of deputy superintendents and inspectors underwent a one-day training session, in Chennai on Monday.

They underwent training in Web 3.0, crypto-related technologies and use-cases, said a release from Giottus, a Web 3.0 company and cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Chennai that organised the session where topics like blockchain, crypto for policing, and identification of frauds in the Web 3.0 space were also discussed.

The officers were briefed on the intricacies of tracing cryptocurrency transactions and examining other pertinent data. “Crypto is the most significant and proven ‘use-case’ in the Web 3.0 and blockchain ecosystem today. The goal of the session was to help prepare the officers to evaluate the cases that are presented to them,” said Vikram Subbaraj, CEO of Giottus.

The officers were also briefed on the policy-level initiatives, including the current status of digital assets and blockchain technology, their implications, how they can be deployed, future potential, and challenges. Officers from districts, who attended the sessions virtually, also clarified doubts on tackling the cases they were handling.
