3,352.77 metric tonnes manure in stock in Chennai
The highest amount of manure was sold in Thiruvottiyur Zone, where people purchased 8.78 MT for Rs 22,850. Followed by Kodambakkam Zone for Rs 12,000 while Thiru Vi Ka Nagar sold 0.61 MT for Rs 11,900.
CHENNAI: At least 3,352.77 metric tonnes (MT) of manure from solid waste are in stock in the city. Both public and farmers can purchase at a low price, the Greater Chennai Corporation said. So far, 607.80 MT fertilizers were sold at Rs.18,23,400 in Chennai.
A press release noted, “On average, at least 5,200 MT of waste is collected daily from all 15 zones in the city. Sanitation workers collect door -to-door collection and segregate garbage into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Biodegradable waste is collected and sent to the Corporation’s composting centers.”
Natural compost is produced and sold to the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Marketing Federation (TANFED) for distribution to the public and farmers.
From September 16 to October 7, 2022, at least 23.09 MT of manure was sold to the public, and 55.6 MT to TANFED. The Chennai corporation has earned Rs 3,16,620 through it. Also, TANFED provides 50 kg bags of natural fertilizer at a rate of Rs 3 per kg to the farmers.

Till October 7, a total of 607.80 MT of natural manure has been sold at Rs.18,23,400. The parks under the maintenance of the city corporation are 128.57 MT of fertilizers have been used. Currently, the civic body has 3,352.77 MT of natural manure in stock in all the 15 zones.
