Rs 6L, gold coins seized at RAMO
Based on credible information that the officials at theOffice of the Regional Administrative Medical Officer (RAMO), functioning under the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services on Perambur High Road, are collecting bribes from pharmaceutical companies on the occasion of Deepavali festival, a surprise check was carried out at the said office.
CHENNAI: A surprise check at the regional administrative medical office (RAMO) in Jamalia by the DVAC team led to the seizure of unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 6 lakh along with gold coins.
Based on credible information that the officials at theOffice of the Regional Administrative Medical Officer (RAMO), functioning under the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services on Perambur High Road, are collecting bribes from pharmaceutical companies on the occasion of Deepavali festival, a surprise check was carried out at the said office.
The RAMO is in charge of 35 dispensaries in and around Chennai and the medical requirements for the dispensaries are received at this office and sent to the Director ESIC at DMS for approval. The surprise check commenced at the said office where Dr Thirunavaukarasu, is functioning as the Regional Administrative Medical Officer.
During the surprise check, Rs 6 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from the office bureau of the RAMO. One gold coin was seized from the office of the RAMO and 28 gold coins were seized from the car of one of the pharmaceutical companies. Totally 29 gold coins (11 sovereigns) were seized. Unaccounted cash of Rs 63,000 was seized from the representatives of the pharmaceutical companies waiting to see the officer, said a release from DVAC.
