Rs 9.18L fine collected for dumping waste in Chennai

Posters pasted in public places and walls painted with advertisements were destroyed. Paintings that represent culture and history of the State have been painted as part of the beautification process.

CHENNAI: Fine of Rs 9.18 lakh has been imposed on people who dumped garbage and construction waste in public places and put up posters in areas under the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Posters pasted in public places and walls painted with advertisements were destroyed. Paintings that represent culture and history of the State have been painted as part of the beautification process.

From 08 October, 2022 to 19 October, 2022, a fine of Rs 5.02 lakh was imposed on those who dumped garbage in public places and Rs 3.53 lakh on those who dumped construction waste. At least 455 people who pasted posters in violation of rules in government, municipal buildings and public places were fined with Rs 62,800.

A release from the Greater Chennai Corporation stated that public should give full cooperation to keep the city clean by avoiding dumping garbage and construction waste in public places and avoid pasting posters in public places. Violators will be fined.
