Cyclone Mandous: 27 flights cancelled at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: As many as 27 flights were  cancelled on Friday following the Mandous cyclone. The AAI has decided to cancel all the ATR flights till the wind speed becomes normal.

The airport officials said more flights would get cancelled by night and many would be diverted to Bangalore or Hyderabad since landing all the flights would not be possible at the Chennai airport.

The airport sources said till Friday night, 27 flights had been cancelled and all the passengers were informed earlier regarding the cancellation so they need not visit the airport. Civil Aviation was ordered not to operate the small ATR aircraft since it's not advisable to operate them during the cyclone. The AAI announced that all the ATR flights are cancelled till the weather becomes normal.

The ATR flights which were scheduled to Tuticorin, Mysore, Kozhikode, Vijayawada, Bangalore, Tiruchy, Madurai, Hyderabad, Hubli and Kannur are cancelled. The other flights to Sri Lanka, Tuticorin, Kadapah, and Mumbai are cancelled. The officials said the arrangements have been made for landing the flights in Bangalore and Hyderabad in the evening and night since the wind speed would be high in Chennai due to the Mandous cyclone.
