CM inspects construction work of King institute hospital, Guindy

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin inspected the ongoing construction of the King Institute premises which is being developed as a multi super speciality hospital at a cost of Rs. 230 crores. It is being built to include about 18 departments and have about 500 beds and is expected to be completed by June.

The Chief Minister had already inspected the hospital construction last year after the announcement was made to build a multi-superspeciality hospital. Health Minister Ma Subramanian said on Sunday that the tender for the construction of the hospital is not due until September, but the work is likely to be completed by June itself. The Chief Minister had laid the foundation of the building last year.

He said that the second inspection was focused on checking the completion of the completed works, facilities for people with disabilities, places to stay for sanitation workers, and making the hospital a green space. He said that the works are being completed at a fast pace, and the hospital will be opened for public use most likely by June.

The health minister also mentioned that the construction of storm water drains in a timely manner helped to prevent floods in the city even before the Northeast Monsoon set in, and in a similar approach, the construction of storm water canals is also being done. He said that the damaged roads are also being repaired by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Chief Secretary Irai Anbu, Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan, and many other government officials were also present at the inspection.
