CHENNAI: AR Rahman’s son Ameen on Friday reacted to rumours connecting his parents’ separation announcement with the divorce of Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey.

Taking to Instagram, Ameen posted a story containing a short note along with a screenshot of a post from a popular paparazzi account whose headline read “no connection between Rahman, Dey divorces”. In the note shared on his Instagram story, Ameen wrote, "My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years.”

He said it was “disheartening” to see the unfounded rumours about Rahman adding, “Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy. Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation. Let’s honor and preserve his dignity and the incredible impact he has had on all of us."

Oscar and Grammy award-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage on November 20. They are parents to Khatija, Raheema and Ameen. Incidentally, hours later, bassist Mohini Dey who has performed alongside Rahman for years, also posted news of her separation from her husband Mark Hartsuch.

On Tuesday, while announcing separation from his wife, Rahman wrote an emotional post on social media, calling it a 'shattering' decision. “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter,” Rahman shared.
