CHENNAI: Pottuvil Asmin, a Sri Lankan lyricist, is making a stand in the Tamil film industry with his striking lyrics. He made a mark for himself with his debut song, Thappellam Thappe Ilai from Vijay Antony’s Naan.

Asmin has his roots in Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram and was praised by renowned lyricist Vairamuthu 12 years ago. A show producer, anchor, author and lyricist, Pottuvil Asmin is a multifaceted talent.

Recently, he attracted eyeballs with Ayyo Saami music video. This Tamil song became the first Sri Lankan production to receive the highest number of views on YouTube. He is also working with National award-winning music director Srikanth Deva for the Mama Kuttyma album, which features musician Deva’s voice.

Asmin has penned promo songs for Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyan, Annathe and Ajithkumar’s Viswasam, among others. Apart from films, he has written lyrics for many socially impactful songs dealing with farmers’ suicide in India, and Sri Lankan protests. He also penned a mourning song for late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, which was played at her memorial for two months.

Currently, Pottuvil Asmin is busy with Thirumbipaar, Ur Next, The Studio and Naalaiya Maatram, among many other projects.
