Bringing never-seen-before designs to the market is one of her primary aims. After an in-depth reading of the history of the Ottoman Empire, which controlled a large section of Southeast Europe, West Asia and North Africa from 14th to early 20th centuries, Mita turned to the details from the bygone era’s jewellery to influence her designs.

Her brand Isadore’s latest collection brings grand and antique touches to the inspirations from history.

“The collection draws mainly from some of the most loved jewellery from the Ottoman Empire. The pomegranate fruit is seen in the designs in metal with a gold plating, as it is known as a fruit that depicts prosperity and was worshipped by people of different faiths.

The entire range of jewellery will include metal and stones, with antique and grand finishes. Precious stones like amethyst, lapis lazuli and turquoise are part of the designs,” Mita says.

About 150 designs, which include neckpieces, earrings, rings and bracelets, will be part of the collection. “I have also used fresh water pearls from Hyderabad in the collection,” shares Mita.

Besides the collection starring pomegranates, her destination jewellery takes inspiration from Turkish designs. “In the current day, we see weddings taking place all around the world.

The idea of destination jewellery is to give people designs that are glamourous, but not too expensive, so they don’t have to carry their expensive jewellery when they travel for weddings,” adds the designer.

In the current day, people prefer fun, light and fashion-oriented jewellery to heavy designs, Mita notes. “I bring out new designs keeping that in mind every three months,” she remarks.

Mita Banker’s collection will be on display at Evoluzione from 12 noon to 6 pm on January 28.
