Google tribute to B.K.S. Iyengar

On December 14, Google created a special doodle to celebrate the 97th birthday of B.K.S. Iyengar, who developed the ‘Iyengar yoga’ style

The doodle shows him doing sirasana (headstand) Born as Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar in 1918, he went on to become an international yoga guru. It is said that he suffered from poor health as a child and was invited to a yoga school in Mysore run by his brothers-in-law at the age of 15. He went there to improve his health through yoga. With the encouragement of yoga guru Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, Iyengar moved to Pune in 1937 to teach yoga. He spent many hours each day, learning and experimenting with various techniques. He has trained several prominent people including Jiddu Krishnamurti, Jayaprakash Narayan, Yehudi Menuhin and Elisabeth, Queen of Belgium, who learnt sirasana from him when she was 80.
