A recent video of Chicago-based twins Poonam and Priyanka in which they blend robotic dance elements with Bharatanatyam, has become a rage on social media.

Wearing the traditional sari, make-up and jasmine flowers in their hair, as their fingers recreate traditional mudras, their bodies are in sync with the heady beat of the fusion music.
At the end of the video called ‘VGO Carnatic trap’, they move like robots – pausing for microseconds as they move their bodies – and the effect is surprisingly good.
The effect is a seamless blend, not a clash; neither with the dances moves, nor the music.
