What is the different perspective you wanted to explore through ‘Vidura Neethi’?
Vidura is a character often ignored even in the epic. His words of wisdom fell in deaf ears and no one, including Dritharashtra, heeded to his advice. He was the only one who loved both Pandavas and Kauravas equally, but he was often side-lined. In this 80-minute dance presentation, we wanted to highlight his character through many segments that substantiate his righteousness.
What are the elements of the programme?
We have used both Tamil and Sanskrit to cater to a wider segment of audience. The guidance and inputs from doctor Sudha Seshayyan, who has also written the lyrics, has added a different dimension to the whole piece, apart from Vyasa’s Mahabharata and Panchali Sabatham. The music by Rajkumar Bharathi complements the story effectively through raagas like Rudragandhari and Karna Ranjani.
You are artistes steeped in the classical format of the dance. How do you adapt to a thematic presentation?
We are popular for our thematic shows and audiences look forward to something new from us each time. Thematic shows give us the space to present stories in an innovative format. For eg, with ‘Vidura Neethi, we have included martial arts sequences.
