Last week it was his letter to his granddaughters that became viral on social media. This week actor Amitabh Bachchan is again in news for a similar reason. He had lent his voice for a video that looks at breaking silly stereotypes associated with women in India.

The video, made by Culture Machine’s digital channel Blush, reiterates some of what women have to hear or are made to feel on a daily basis — being shamed about their clothes, work, pay-scale or even behaving a certain way. Big B acts as a ventriloquist who first voices society’s thoughts and then urges women to use their voice and speak up against discrimination.

The video encourages women to stop accepting any bias and empower them to live a life equal to their male counterparts. It features women from all walks of life who are facing an inner conflict with their real emotions.

“A right can never be silenced,” says the 73-year-old thespian in the video. He is seen voicing the insecurities, the judgements, moral policing, the gender stereotyping that a woman braves every day. It ends with the tagline of Vivel’s new promotional campaign ‘AbSamjhautaNahin’.
