Home Interirors: How to dress your bed in style

With up to a third of our lives spent snoozing under the cover in the hope of getting eight hours of sleep a night, a great mattress and comfortable bed linen are a worthy investment. The fun in dressing up our beds lies in our personal style. Your bedroom is the most intimate part of your home and an extension of your personality. You can tell a lot about a person when you walk into their bedroom.

This Deepavali, Interior designer Poonam Jhaver of Elan gives some handy tips on making the bedrooms cosier, colourful and lively. All it takes is a good eye for colours. While the results will surely wow everyone, the changes will not burn a hole in your pocket.

Add in a throw: Update the look of your room by adding a decorative or accent throw or an accent pillow! They will add a splash of color to your existing bedding.

Place something at the foot of your bed: Choose a bench, a trunk, pouffe, a few floor cushion thrown over a rug. This underutilized space in your room won’t just look a little more dynamic visually, after you have filled it with something which looks good aesthetically it will also increase the functionality of your space.

Add in a runner: A contrasting or an accented runner placed at the foot end of the bed makes the bed look complete.

Modern look: Bold acidic colors and pastel tones work well with soft white, cream and grey bedroom. White cream and grey add freshness and elegance to trendy bedding in pink and purple colours. Mixing bedding fabrics with geometric and floral patterns add personality to bed sets and modern decor.

Girls room: Traditional room for a very dreamy fairy tale look  is always a winner. Go for it with eyes closed.

Teenage: Your teens no longer need to be limited to childish designs or boring adult styles. coordinate denim with any print, colour matching the room to get the perfect look. Keep it classic- contemporary.

Beige-brown: For a sophisticated look stick to a few calm colours  (beige, cream) very conventional finish with a bed runner.
