Revelling in the refreshing waters of Veerapandi river

The most enlivening experience often lies in the places we seldom seek upon. This was one such encounter that propelled our mood in the Discover Tamil Nadu trip.

An accidental visit to the Veerapandi river in Theni district turned into an experience to remember

Chennai

The plan was to spend a day in Theni but the less explored Megamalai had our attention and we were driving past the town. On our way, it was then that we accidentally bumped into this view of the splashing Veerapandi river on the side. It had been a relatively dry and hot climate that we experienced till then in our trip, and this rejuvenating sight made us go gaga. Struck in awe, we pulled the car over and did what we used to as kids whenever we saw a huge water body. We jumped inside.

The chillness of the water embraced our senses as we waded through. An extension of the Mullaiperiyar river, this body of water has a beautiful cascade that allows one to sit on the steps and enjoy the refreshing water. The Kaliamman temple adjacent to the river is an auspicious one, with water-related rituals taking place often. It was the quarterly vacation for kids and we got lucky with some amazing posers to chronicle the fun we had. There was plenty of greenery around and to gaze at them from the waters was mesmerising. With monsoon approaching in a few months, it is the best time to visit this place.

How to reach:  Located 15 km from Theni, Veerapandi river (that can be accessed via the Kaliamman Kovil street) is a landmark by itself. Camp together as a family, this is certainly a place to chill.
