City lensman earns place in coveted top 60 contemporary artists list

Art Tour International Magazine (ATIM), an award-winning publication dedicated to exposing contemporary artists, photographers, visual artists, and performing artists worldwide, has bestowed upon Ramachandran the unique honour of being one among its Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art 2017. The self-taught photographer will be honoured at a gala ceremony at Auditorium Grand Al Duomo, Florence, Italy. 

Speaking about the honour, he says, “Recognition and appreciation always serve as an impetus to do better. The honour gives me the confidence to push my boundaries further. Even though I have been to Europe for many of my shoots and exhibitions, this journey to Italy is extremely special and very close to my heart for the others in the list are artists I’ve always looked up to.” 

Having carved a niche for himself, presently his oeuvre spans varied genres of fine art, contemporary, architecture, travel, lifestyle, fashion, glamour, celebrities and performing arts. However, he is most acclaimed for how he captures the alluring forms of the powerful female body with mature artistry and dexterity. The pictures are simple, yet strong, portraits, stripped of paraphernalia. “A nude body conveys human emotions in the most transparent way. There are no pretentions. The freedom, vulnerability and honesty that the body exudes is what draws me towards capturing it in its most ethereal form,” adds Ramachandran whose works have been exhibited across Asia, Europe and America. 

Perhaps not the most accepted form of photography in the country yet, Ramachandran is confident things will change. “We need to start appreciating the human body as a work of art. I shoot my subjects, who are mostly nude, sans sexual motivation. It is this thought process that needs to be propagated when you view and appreciate art as well. But, a lot of photographers these days are taking the offbeat path. Things are changing, albeit gradually,” he finishes.
