Vijay's 'Vettaikaran' movie director Babu Sivan dies at 54

Director Babu Sivan passed away in Chennai after a brief illness. Reports said he succumbed due to lung and renal failures.

Babu Sivan began his career as an assistant director to film director Dharani. He turned into a director in Vijay- Anushka Shetty's "Vettaikaran" movie, in the year 2009. While Salim Ghouse played the antagonist, the movie also had Srihari, Sayaji Shinde and Sathyan in prominent roles. The film was considered as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2009.

Babu Sivan had a long association with Actor Vijay. The filmmaker had also worked as a writer on the star's Kuruvi, and was part of the story discussion team of  Bairavaa.

Initial reports reveal that the director was found unconscious on Sunday, when he was left alone at home as his wife had to accompany his daughters' who were appearing for NEET exams. The director was later rushed to a nearby private hospital in Tambaram.

It was also said that the director had to be shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital as the family could not afford his medical expenses. After the initial examination, it was found that Babu Mohan had severe lungs, liver and renal failure. Agency reports said that both the director and the family weren't aware of the health complications of the director.  Even while the doctors initiated dialysis, the director succumbed, this morning.

Babu Sivan was 54, and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
