Directed by Dhilip Kumar the film stars Shraddha Srinath as the female lead and will premiere on Amazon Prime on January 8.

Maddy starts with a clarification and says that the film is adapted from Dulquer’s Charlie and is not a frame-to-frame remake.  “We have taken the essence from Charlie and the milieus are entirely different. We have worked on a story that suits Madhavan or Shraddha Srinath. What prompted me to do the film, was the universe of Charlie. The people he meets and places he travels were surreal. Hence we have taken that essence and have woven our own version to it,” he adds.

The trailer of the film released on Tuesday and become an instantaneous hit.

“This film is like a breath of fresh air in such dark times. It is a take on relationships, something that has gone for a toss in this mobile phone era. Maara is a guy, who doesn’t have a smartphone and he meets Paaru. How the cosmic energy connects them is what the film is all about,” he opens up.

On romancing Shraddha on screen for the second time after Vikram Vedha, Madhavan says, “We
both are like vagabond-like outlook to life. We both like meeting people and enjoy nature.”

The actor says that he was able to relate himself to his character easily. “Maara is pretty much me off screen. We both share the same philosophies deeply. I have included things I do in real life in Maara like creating eco-friendly atmosphere for elderly people. If one has to create something beautiful, hard work is certainly needed. I believe that has happened to me with this film,” he smiles.

However, it wasn’t a cakewalk for the actor, as the project was in the making for two years where the actor had to frequently shift gears. “So, I had to finish Rocketry before I could go back to Maara. So once when I came back to this we finished it off in a couple of schedules and has come out well,” Maddy tells us.

The actor had recently posted pictures from his films that were dropped and the pictures went viral. “I have the habit of saving pictures from my photoshoots irrespective of the project status. I wonder what went into my mind that day and I posted them on Insta. I have no clue why they went viral. Obviously,
I regret that those films didn’t  happen,” he concludes.
