LS polls: Ballot voting for senior citizens begins in Chennai
The field staff will hand over the sealed ballot boxes to the respective returning officers of the three constituencies after the completion of the door-to-door ballot voting in Chennai North, Chennai Central, and Chennai South.
CHENNAI: Poll officials on Monday kick-started the ballot voting for the senior citizens above 85 years old in Chennai.
As many as 4,300 people have registered for the door-to-door ballot voting facility which will be carried out till April 13 in all three Lok Sabha seats in the city. “At least 67 teams each comprising three members along with returning officers have begun the door-to-door ballot voting process. We have received 4,300 registrations of senior citizens above 85 years and differently-abled in the city. As we don’t have any fixed target per day regarding the ballot voting the numbers might vary in the end,” said a senior corporation official.

In addition, the corporation officials in charge of election duty carried out the booth slip distribution to the eligible voters in three constituencies from April 1. They have been distributing as many as three lakh booth slips to the voters in the city. The distribution will be continued till April 14.
There are 39.25 lakh voters in the Chennai district. Out of which 19.28 lakh are male voters, 19.95 are female voters, and 1,199 third gender voters.
