Vairamuthu appeared before the division bench, comprising justices R Sudhakar and P N Prakash.

On October 28, the court had issued statutory notice to the popular lyricist and also issued a notice to the Office of the Advocate General on the petition regardin this issue. Petitioner Mukanchand Bothra had alleged that Vairamuthu, in his speech at a function here on September 12, had “raised doubts about the faith, integrity, purity of judges among the public, especially about judges who are on the verge of retirement.” The bench, before which the lyricist appeared in person, dispensed with his further appearance on a request from his counsel.

It also directed the Registry to place the matter before the Chief Justice to take a decision on posting the matter before any other Division Bench.
