186 illegal structures in Dal Lake being demolished, LAWDA

The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has identified 186 illegal structures in the world famous Dal Lake which will be demolished to restore the glory of the water body.

Officials said  here today that  Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon has asked the officials to work for restoring the pristine glory and beauty of Dal Lake by adopting a multi pronged strategy.

Dr Samoon stressed upon the officers concerned to comply with the court orders in letter and spirit. He directed the officials to start a comprehensive demolition drive to remove illegal structures in and around Dal and Nigeen Lakes.

However, they said the LAWDA has demolished around 120 illegal structures during the last few weeks and 186 more structures have been identified which will be demolished soon.

Divisional Commissioner directed authorities of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to extend all assistance  to LAWDA during demolition drives.
