Dalit scholar suicide row: Cong adamant over Irani & Dattatreya's removal
Congress today slammed Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani for unduly justifying 'injustice and unfairness' meted out to Dalit scholar late Rohith Vemula and reiterated the demand of resignation of the Minister and her colleague Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for the student's suicide.

Addressing mediapersons at the AICC headquarters here, party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said yesterday that Ms Irani made wrong and unfactual statement and also tried to justify approach and decision taken by her and the University authorities in this matter.
"The HRD Minister justified the unfairness meted out to Vemula and the other Dalit students.., she lied to the nation", Mr Surjewala said.
Pressing upon the demand of immediate sacking of Ms Irani and Mr Dattatreya, he said Ms Irani said the Proctorial Board's 1st report, which revoked the suspension of the Dalit scholars was ex parte and not valid.
"The Board recorded statements from the two witnesses, the Duty Security Officer and the Medical Officer and then revoked the suspension", Surjewala asserted.
"After pressure from the University authorities and HRD Ministry and statements of ABVP leaders, the Board was forced to overturn their decision", he alleged.
"Does Smriti Irani ji agree with her Ministerial colleague Paswan ji that there should be an inquiry into the scholar's death", he questioned.
