AAP govt approves Home Guards tenure extension by two years

Seeking to ensure "maximum safety" for Delhiites especially women, the AAP government has approved extension of tenure of Home Guard volunteers by another two years.

The decision will also pave the way for their service term to be for extended to nine years, from the existing seven- year duration.

Besides, the Arvind Kejriwal government has also decided to recruit 7,239 Home Guard volunteers, taking the total strength of the force to around 18,000.

A senior government official said the decision to extend the service tenure of home guard volunteers by two years will benefit 10,000 personnel and out of this, 2,200 were to complete their service in February and March.

"In order to ensure maximum safety and security of citizens of Delhi especially women, the government has approved the extension of tenure of home guard volunteers for another two years.

"Instantly, this step will benefit more than 2,200 volunteers who were to complete their tenure in February and March. The move will also benefit a total number of 10,285 home guard volunteers," the official said.

The government has also approved the enrolement of 7,239 Home Guard volunteers which was pending for over three years, the official said.

With an aim to ensuring safety of bus passengers, especially women, the Delhi government has deployed Home Guard volunteers in DTC buses, besides at hospitals to prevent any untoward incidents.
