Party sources said BJP president Amit Shah,  who would reach Thiruvananthapuram this evening, was expected to hold talks with the cricketer. The sources said Sreesanth was likely to take a decision after discussing the issue with his family members. The initiative was taken by the party central leadership.

The cricketer might be offered Thrippunithura or Ernakulam seat. The state leadership was asked to finalise the formalities if Sreesanth expressed his willingness to enter into the electoral arena.

The sources said Sreesanth's in-laws had close links with top BJP leaders of the Madhya Pradesh. The cricketing career of Sreesanth, a right-arm fast-medium-pace bowler, came to an abrupt halt in May 2013 when he was arrested on the charges of spot-fixing during IPL. In July 2015, he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case.
