Verma, an MLA from Narkatiganj in West Champaran on Indo-Nepal border, was caught on camera in a sting operation, offering drinks to a team of a news channel at a five-star hotel in Patna.

“I will offer you liquor, if you want. I can offer at my house both in Patna and at my house in my constituency,” the Congress MLA is heard saying in the video.

Verma goes on to say that why should he throw away the bottles of branded make.

He also said that availability of alcohol was not an issue in his constituency because of its proximity to Nepal. When reached for his comments, a furious Verma said he will file a defamation case against the crew of the news channel for maligning his image.

“I am a vegetarian and do not take liquor at all,” Verma said in his defence.

Incidentally, Verma was among the members of the state legislature, who had taken an oath not to consume liquor and work for creating awareness among people against the bad effects of liquor. Bihar Congress president and State Human Resources Development Minister Ashok Choudhary could not be reached for his comment.
